“What’s the WiFi Password?”

The Internet – where would we be without it? In today’s day and age having quality, stable access to online service is essential.

We rely on the Internet to pay our bills, Google what the difference between an alligator and a crocodile is, and message our loved ones who live across the world.

In 2000, 52% of adults were consistently using the Internet, and in 2019 that grew to over 90%.

While public WiFi is helpful for free access on the go, it isn’t always the most convenient or reliable. In-house broadband allows users the ability to connect to online service with little hassle. All while in the comfort and security of their home!

The Pew Research Center broadband fact sheet shows that broadband use is on the rise. Only 1% of Americans had at-home broadband in 2000, while in 2019 it grew to approximately 73%!

Even among the 65+ age group, which tends to be less committed to adopting changing technology, stood at 59% usage in 2019.

While people of every age are able to reap the benefits of home Internet access, students rely on connection to complete their work.

A 2015 Pew survey concluded that over 31% of households with an annual income under $50,000 were unable to provide their children in school with broadband service.

In contrast, 82.5% of households above the $50k mark have access to broadband.

In the United States, there are more than 29 million homes that have one or more children in school, and about 5 million of those do not have the resources to subscribe to an Internet provider.

A 2018 survey found that 17% of teens are unable to finish homework due to lacking access to a computer or internet.  Pew concluded that, when necessary, 35% of teens have used their phone data to finish and turn in their homework on time.
